The Proper Essay Writing Format Will Simplify Your Writing Efforts

Writing format

Learning proper essay writing format will give you a leg-up on writing your essay. It may be difficult to write an essay, not knowing exactly where to start.

But when you have a template of some kind, it offers you help and the process of writing will be less intimidating.

We will focus on the formal essay in this article, but first, here's some information about the informal essay. In this way, you will know the difference between them.

Informal essay

When applying to college or graduate school, you may be asked to write an informal essay (personal statement) about why you want to attend their particular school.

In addition, the admissions board will want to know about you, and your aspirations. It will want to know something about your personality.

One student applying for admission to law school wrote about her shock of having been hit with the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes when in her junior year of high school. She wrote about how she handled the devastating news, and how the illness gave her the strength to not let it deter her from her dream.

Admission boards appreciate these types of stories because school can be tough. Many students fold when faced with hard times. But many become more determined.

Like the formal essay, the informal essay will also have structure, but less. The informal essay does not have a thesis and can use slang and be rambling.

Here's the Proper Essay Writing Format For the Formal Essay

Formal essay

When speaking about the type of essays you'll be required to write when in graduate school or post-graduate school, you'll write a formal essay.

The formal essay “consists of ideas, arguments, and facts which must be composed in a logical way to increase the impact on readers. A successfully written narration requires proper structuring, similar to a mathematical formula . . .” (Essay Writing Police, ch. 1)

Let’s explore what proper essay writing format is all about . . .

In simplistic terms, the proper essay format will have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Here’s a deeper look into these three categories.

Introduction. This is where you hook or lose your reader. Remember the saying about first impressions? You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. Make your first impression a darn good one!

From the start you want to engage your reader, to entice her to perk up her ears, to make her want to read from beginning till end. Even a topic that’s mundane can be spiced up. Just choose a fascinating angle from which to approach it.

The introduction should not contain broad, generalized statements, which do not give information about the forthcoming arguments of your thesis. And flights of fantasy will doom your thesis.

The introduction is where you’ll write the thesis statement, which is in keeping with proper essay writing format. The thesis statement appears at the conclusion of the introductory paragraph. It gives the summary of the main point of the essay or paper and is usually expressed in one sentence.

Body. The body is exactly what it suggests, the core of your essay in which your statements and arguments gleaned from the introduction are explored. Writing paragraphs in the body can be a juggling act.

Writing too few paragraphs, and you may not be able to get your ideas and arguments across. Too many paragraphs may result in extraneous ideas that are off-topic and may result in a redundant and boring read.

Starting the body with a topic sentence is similar to the thesis statement in the introduction. The topic sentence leads the reader to the points to be discussed.

What is the purpose of the topic sentence? It is to keep you on track, to keep you from wandering astray.

Make sure the body of your essay is supported with arguments, which may include in-text citations and historical facts.

Conclusion. This is the wrap-up. The conclusion restates the thesis statement, although not word for word. And the conclusion should summarize the arguments and facts made in the body. The concluding remarks should capture the theme of the essay.

It’s especially important to not introduce new information in the conclusion. New information here would not have been supported by arguments.

In addition, works cited do not belong here either. These are conclusions of your own opinions, not those of others.

Proper Essay Writing Format Will Help You Produce a Quality Paper

Quality

As discussed above, the three structures: the introduction, the body, and the conclusion have specific rules to which you’ll need to adhere. When these suggestions are properly undertaken, your essay will be one of quality.

Learn proper essay writing format. It can be done painlessly. It just takes attention to detail and practice.
